Candidates Environmental Forum

Meet the Candidates Night

Thursday, October 9th at 6pm
California Buiding in Idlewild Park (one block west of Idlewild Dr. and Booth St.)
Featuring Reno City Council, Sparks City Council, County Commisioners and State Assembly Candidates

Nevada EcoNet, Toiyabe Chapter of the Sierra Club and Scenic Nevada host the Candidates Environmental Forum.  This event provids the largest local candidate forum focused solely on environmental issues during the election season.

Doors will open at 6:00 PM and the first session will begin at 6:30 with candidates for Washoe County Commission, Reno City Council and Sparks City Council. Our inimitable Chip Latham will emcee the entire forum adding a bit of levity with his dry wit while keeping the speakers on topic and brief. Many of the questions during the first session will focus on the candidate’s views regarding a number of environmentally related ballot initiatives such as the one that seeks to limit new housing developments based on the amount of water available to serve such developments.

After a 15 minute break a second session, starting at 7:45, will involve Washoe County candidates for the Nevada State Assembly.  A broad array of issues may range from such things as energy policy, coal fired power plants, energy efficiency and alternative energy incentives to land use policy such as wilderness, off-road vehicles and wild horses as well as one of the defining issues in the arid west: Water. Specific questions to be asked of the candidates can be sent directly to Chip at ranchcoe@charter.net. There may also be time for a few audience questions during the forum.

Light refreshments will be served and there will be a number of tables set up around the room to highlight individual candidates, ballot initiatives and our environmental organizations. People are encouraged to arrive early to allow themselves time to meet and speak directly with the candidates prior to the formal part of the forum and to learn more about the numerous environmentally related ballot initiatives.
